5S Program Grand Launching

In a groundbreaking move towards fostering a more organized and productive learning environment, the University of the Visayas (UV) proudly launched its 5S program on October 11, 2023, at the UV Gymnasium. The university stands as a trailblazer in Cebu, being the first to adopt the 5S program, a Japanese-originated methodology emphasizing Sort, Sweep, Systematize, Sanitize, and Self-Discipline.

The spearheading of this initiative was led by the visionary University President, Dr. Conrado E. Iñigo Jr., along with the dynamic team of Chief Finance and Administrative Officer Dr. Rosemarie Cruz-Español, Chief Academic Officer Dr. Anna Lou Cabuenas, and Administrative Officer Mr. Elmer Ocaba. The Institutional champions for each 5S principle were also announced, featuring Dr. Crescencio Mejarito for Sort, Dr. Aileen Catacutan for Systematize, Mr. Ben Reducto for Sweep, Dr. Richard Saing for Sanitize, and Mr. Mark Anthony Ruiz for Self-Discipline. These champions were complemented by dedicated student counterparts: Guada Marie Gacason, Frenzyll Abella, Mariel Ann Galabaya, Missy Cañete, and Kimberly Rama.

Dr. Iñigo disclosed that the university has successfully implemented the 5S program in its offices over the past two years, and with the resumption of face-to-face classes, these practices will now be extended to the classrooms. The grand launch saw active participation from college deans, directors, program coordinators, faculty, non-teaching staff, and students. The event also garnered enthusiastic online participation from UV's satellite campuses, showcasing the institution's commitment to a culture of efficiency and excellence.
