Program Description

The Mechanical Engineering program of the University equips students with a solid foundation of engineering knowledge that make them perform engineering functions related to general and mechanical engineering in particular. The program aims at educating students in developing analytical skills in dealing with technical problems in mechanical environments and the application of appropriate engineering principles towards their solution. It also provides students with personal and professional skills necessary to lead a productive life. The program also cultivates confidence that promotes students’ performance of leadership roles in their respective chosen fields of endeavor.


Program Educational Objectives (PEO)

Within four years after graduation, the graduates of BS Mechanical Engineering Program shall have:

  • Pursued active life-long purpose of advancing their professional career through continued professional education, attaining advanced degrees or furthering research activities that tackle on vital areas in the field of Mechanical Engineering;
  • Demonstrated engagement in the engineering profession, locally and globally, by contributing to the ethical, competent, and creative practice of Mechanical Engineering;
  • Collaborated effectively on multi-disciplinary teams to address the needs of society and the environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and initiative to ethically advance professional and organizational goals, facilitate the achievements of others, and obtain substantive results.

Program Outcomes

Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering program are expected to:

  • PO1. Apply knowledge of mathematics and science to solve complex mechanical engineering problems.
  • PO2. Design and conduct experiments, as well as analyze and interpret data.
  • PO3. Design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints, in accordance with standards.
  • PO4. Function in multidisciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
  • PO5. Identify, formulate, and solve complex mechanical engineering problems.
  • PO6. Understand professional and ethical responsibility.
  • PO7. Communicate effectively.
  • PO8. Understand the impact of mechanical engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context.
  • PO9. Recognize the need for, and engage in life-long learning
  • PO10. Know contemporary issues.
  • PO11. Use techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for mechanical engineering practice.

Career Opportunities

The scope of practice of mechanical engineering pertains to professional services to industrial plants in terms of:

  • Consultation requiring mechanical engineering knowledge, skill, and proficiency;
  • Investigation;
  • Estimation and or valuation;
  • Planning, preparation of feasibility studies;
  • Designing;
  • Preparation of specifications;
  • Supervision of installation;
  • Operation including quality management;
  • Research; and
  • The teaching, lecturing and reviewing of professional Mechanical Engineering subjects in the curriculum of the BSME degree or a subject in the Mechanical Engineering licensure examination given in any school, College, University or any other educational institution is also considered as practice of Mechanical Engineering.

  • Fablab: Digital fabrication, inclusive of CNC machine and 3D printers.
  • Architectural Design Studio: For lectures, drafting, and modeling classes.
  • Multi-purpose Laboratory: Utilities, building technology, and scale modeling.
  • Computer Laboratory for Architecture: Equipped with desktop computers and necessary software.
  • Audio-Visual Facility: Includes interactive projector and copying machine with tiered seating.
  • Hydraulics Laboratory: Resources for fluid energy transfer experiments.
  • Materials Testing Laboratory: Conducts experiments on engineering materials' physical characteristics.
  • Universal Testing Machine (UTM) Laboratory: Measures tensile strength of materials.
  • Surveying Laboratory: Teaches basics of land surveying using transits, total stations, GPS.
  • Electronics Laboratory: For experiments in Electrical Circuits and Basic Electronics.
  • Electrical Laboratory: Conducts experiments in Digital Electronics and communication subjects.
  • Mechanical Engineering Laboratories: Includes Instrumental and Control, Refrigeration and A/C, ME Laboratory 1 and ME Laboratory 3, and Shop Practice and Theory facilities.
  • Power Laboratory: Conducts experiments on power generation using steam.
  • Higher Computing Laboratories: Equipped with desktop computers for engineering studies and research.
  • Physics Laboratory: Venue for all physics laboratory classes.
  • Chemistry Laboratory: Venue for all chemistry laboratory classes.
