UV Celebrates 107th Commencement Exercises

Graduation activities at the University of the Visayas (UV) brought together undergraduate and graduate students across various disciplines as the University marked the completion of their academic journeys and prepared them for professional responsibilities.
The University held its 107th Commencement Exercises for the Class of 2026, recognizing graduates from the College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS), College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), College of Business Administration (CBA), College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE), College of Education (COED), College of Engineering, Technology and Architecture (CETA), College of Maritime Education, and the Graduate School.
The graduation activities included hooding ceremonies for several colleges, a Maritime Baccalaureate Mass and Recognition Rites, and commencement ceremonies for undergraduate and graduate programs. The Graduate School recognized graduates from the fields of allied health sciences, business, education, and engineering.
Among the Class of 2026 were graduates who completed their studies while balancing academic, professional, financial, and personal challenges. One of them was Kent Ivo Salarda, a two-time Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Most Valuable Player who completed a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Marketing Management through an athletic scholarship.
For Salarda, the scholarship provided an opportunity to pursue higher education while continuing his collegiate basketball career. As a member of the UV Green Lancers who helped secure a rare four-peat in the CESAFI cage wars, he had to balance training, competitions, missed classes, assignments, and examinations while working toward his degree.
His experience reinforced a lesson he carried beyond the basketball court: athletic success is only one part of preparing for the future. “Basketball isn’t forever,” Salarda said, emphasizing the importance of earning a degree and preparing for life beyond sports.
As the Class of 2026 begins its next chapter, Salarda’s journey reflects the different paths taken by graduates to reach the same milestone—completing their education and preparing for what comes after the University. For him and his fellow graduates, the commencement marks not an ending, but the beginning of life beyond the classroom and the playing court.
