Visayanians Recognized at 40th SAC Cebu Sports Awards

The University of the Visayas shone once again as a hub of athletic excellence during the 40th Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC) Sports Awards, celebrating achievements across generations of athletes and contributors.
The University of the Visayas (UV) reaffirmed its status as a sports powerhouse at the 40th SAC Sports Awards on March 8, 2026, honoring both current athletes and notable figures from the university’s rich sporting history.
Posthumous awards were presented to the late Atty. Eduardo R. Gullas, received by Mr. John Tristan Gullas, and to tennis coach Fritz Tabura, accepted by his family, recognizing their lasting contributions to UV athletics.
Among the living honorees, JR Quiñahan received the Orlacsan Award, while the UV Green Lancers were named the top basketball team, continuing the university’s legacy of excellence in sports.
Additional UV awardees included Gary Cortes and Juvel Velos, who both received Citation Awards for their outstanding impact on Cebu’s local sporting scene.
The event highlighted UV’s commitment to fostering talent and strengthening partnerships that promote sports development in the region.
