UV Athletes Shine at PRISAA National Games 2026

The University of the Visayas (UV) once again showcased Visayanian excellence in sports as its athletes delivered outstanding performances during the PRISAA National Games 2026 held recently in Bacolod City.

Leading the university’s achievements was Visayanian karateka Jullienne Rey Metante, who secured the gold medal in the Karatedo kumite event during her first-ever national PRISAA appearance. Despite recovering from an injury last month and having limited training time, Metante remained determined and focused throughout the competition.

“I’m truly honored and proud to represent both University of the Visayas, and the entire Region 7. Being resilient, dedicated and believing in oneself makes progress possible,” shared Metante.

Her achievement reflects resilience, perseverance, and dedication both in training and competition.

Adding to UV’s success, Raul Carlito Gentallan was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the men’s basketball tournament of the PRISAA National Games 2026. Through discipline, commitment, and hard work, Gentallan emerged as one of the tournament’s top performers.

“If you really want to succeed, you have to be willing to take a different path — one that others may not take. Even if you end up walking that road alone, you have to keep going,” Gentallan emphasized.

Gentallan’s recognition serves as an inspiration to aspiring student-athletes to pursue excellence with determination and perseverance.

Capping off the university’s remarkable campaign, the UV Green Lancers captured the National PRISAA 2026 Men’s Basketball Championship after defeating Region IV-A CALABARZON, 62-52, in the finals.

The victory highlighted the team’s unity, discipline, and competitive spirit, bringing pride and honor to the University of the Visayas on the national stage.

The achievements of the UV athletes reflect the university’s continued commitment to excellence not only in academics but also in sports and holistic student development.

Padayon, Visayanians!
